Tamsulosin HCl
Indications/Uses
Benign prostatic hyperplasia to relieve symptoms of urinary obstruction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
400 mcg once daily, may be increased after 2 wk, if necessary to 800 mcg once daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush/open.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Potential risk of syncope, intraoperative floppy iris syndrome, patient w/ serious or life-threatening allergy w/ sulfa drugs. Monitor BP closely on patient receiving antihypertensive drugs. Rule out prostate carcinoma prior treatment. Do not use in women, childn.
Adverse Reactions
Infection, back pain, headache, dizziness, somnolence, rhinitis, increased cough, chest pain, diarrhea, nausea, sinusitis, abnormal ejaculation, decreased libido & blurred vision. Symptomatic postural hypotension, vertigo, skin rash, pruritus, urticaria, angioedema of tongue, lips & face. Arrhythmia, dipsosis, nervousness, stomach heaviness, stomachache, decreased appetite, edema, urinary incontinence, impaired swallowing, generalized fatigue, burning sensation of the pharynx, palpitations, constipation, vomiting skin desquamation.
Drug Interactions
Indomethacin; amitriptyline & chlorpromazine; verapamil, nifedipine; digoxin.
